A new school located on a former military airbase in Warrington, Cheshire.
The airfield was decommissioned in the early 1990’s and has been left as unused land since. The wider area is subject to a large development masterplan known as the Omega development. The school has been located to serve the 1100 new phased housing plots that will created at Omega and opened in September 2016.
The building is a steel frame with the majority of members being UB or UC sections, wherever possible to facilitate straightforward connection design. A varying structural grid of primary and secondary beams has been used to accommodate the architectural layout of the building.
The upper floor slabs are 150mm thick concrete cast onto 60mm deep trapezoidal metal decking with A252 mesh in the top. Concrete grade is C30. The roof structure consists of hot rolled steel rafters with cold rolled purlins supporting standing seam roof panels. The stairs are precast concrete units.
