Manchester Society of Architects 2013: Best Residential Project

This private house and pool house seeks to define a more modern aesthetic for a traditional cottage form providing open plan contemporary living for a young family.

The house satisfies demanding planning conditions by being built from local materials. The external walls are a combination of traditional Cheshire brick and modern precast concrete brick faced lintels to create the relief on the elevations.

The main focus of the house is its roof. A simple structure of timber and steel allows the roof to float over the forms of the house. The open plan interior spaces are spanned by steel beams within the thickness of the floor slab to keep the ridge height below the stipulated level.

The House was awarded the Manchester Society of Architects ‘Best Residential Project’
