Top of the World

We celebrated the topping out of the Church St Place RC frame with clients, collaborators, investors, and friends on Wednesday afternoon. The day marked a key milestone for the development which provides 272 new apartments and sets a high-quality precedent for further regeneration in Eccles.

The occasion provided us opportunity to reflect on the triumph of delivering the 23-storey tower and adjoining low rise blocks well within a tight programme. Booth King provided a turnkey civil and structural engineering design service for the project including design and detailing of the full RC structure, below ground drainage and highways works.

Particular engineering challenges included the proximity of active railway lines, build-over of a 10m deep public sewer crossing the site and the reconciliation of wind forces into an offset stability core. Specialist input from our friends at ArcAero and Enzygo was integral in overcoming these challenges, providing wind tunnel testing and detailed SI / soil-structure interaction modelling respectively.
